Symbolic strings

Since I’m still in the Siebel learning phase, everything is new to me. So today I found out something strange about symbolic strings.
I had to change the spelling of a word in the entire application. Since we used symbolic strings for this, I thought it was enough to change the symbolic string and everywhere in the application the correct spelling would be applied.
But no, apparently, you have to compile every object where you use the symbolic string. For me, this comes as a chock. I thought the purpose of symbolic strings was to simplify the use of titles and such in Siebel. But I guess I was wrong.
Busy week ahead

This week will be very busy. The project where I’m working on at the moment is a 165 km drive for me. Therefor I work 4 days of 10 hours so I have my 40 hours and have one extra day to stay at home.
But this week I have to go to another project for 1 day. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem but the teamleader on the other project wanted me to come for 4 days. So I have a week of 48 hours in front of me. But hey, I’m not complaining. I like the work so I’m going to enjoy it.
New project

Next week I will be working on a second project.
This new project is a big on and – most important – is in Brussels, so I don’t have to drive as far as the current project I’m working on.
Next week it will be one day and the after two days. After that it’s not sure how many days I will be on that project but I hope for lots of days.
Learning Siebel tools

Today, tomorrow and next week I’m taking over a project from a colleague who’s going to another project. There are only some minor bugfixes left so it ideal for me to get more experienced in Siebel development.
When one of the teammembers (from another company) asked if I have the same profile as my colleague, I answered that I have but that I’m still a junior Siebel Consultant. As reply he asked me if I was able to do bugfixing but I told him I am capable of doing so.
My first job was to complete the overview of all fields used in the application (Siebel Media) and making an overview of all the mappings.
Before handing me the task, the other guy asked me if I new tools and if not, that this would be a great exercise to get used to working with tools. I ensured him that I had experience with Tools and that I would do the exercise.
