New start
Jun/091
A new Wordpress theme and a new hosting company. It seems that I’m ready for a new start with this blog.
You might have noticed that no new posts were put here for some time. The reason was that I was a bit too lazy to do so.
But now I’ve found somenew energy so this is a fresh start. The purpose is now not only to blog about Siebel but also a bit more about my personal life. Of course, the main topic will remain Siebel, but still, some personal blogpostswill spice up this blog.
So get ready and join me in this new Diary of a Siebel Consultant.
Surgery
May/070
The reason that it has been so quiet here lately is that I had surgery last Monday and I’m home until next week. So that means no updates on this blog for two to tree weeks.
The surgery itself was nothing serious. Only a little knee surgery. Everything is going fine and I’m hoping to go back to work very soon.
PC crash
Mar/073
It’s been quiet here lately and the reason is that my home PC crashed two weeks ago. When booting the screens froze and nothing happened anymore. After I brought him to the local PC shop, they told me that they removed several spyware items and also did a hard disk check, but the disk seemed healthy. According to them everything was back ok and the PC booted normally.
The first time I booted the PC everything was indeed normal. Even after 24 hours running al seemed ok. But when I came home at night and booted the PC the same problem occurred. Since the PC is 4 years old I didn’t want to upgrade it anymore but just buy a complete new system.
Since I have my own company (webdesign) I can buy my hardware very cheap because I’m also a hardware retailer.
The new PC will have the following specs:
- Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Processor
- GA-965G-DS3 Gigabyte motherboard
- BARRACUDA 400GB SATA harddisk
- 2048MB 667MHZ DDR2 CL5 ECC Ram
- RADEON X1950PRO 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL-DVI video card
- ANTEC CASE SONATA II
From my old PC I will use my 2 17″ LCD monitors, my Logistic wireless keyboard and mouse and my DVD-ROM and DVD-burner. I hope all my parts will be delivered next week so because I’m starting to get frustrated being without my PC.
And I promise. As soon as my pc is ready, I will post more frequently.
Flu
Feb/072
It’s flu time and it’s noticeable.
Two people of the project team where home due to the flu and I’m starting to get the symptoms as well. Hopefully I will go away after a good night of sleep because we can’t risk getting behind on schedule and I will need all the time I can get to finish my tasks before the end of the week.
So lets hope for a good night rest so I can go to work tomorrow.
Learning Siebel tools
Jan/070
Today, tomorrow and next week I’m taking over a project from a colleague who’s going to another project. There are only some minor bugfixes left so it ideal for me to get more experienced in Siebel development.
When one of the teammembers (from another company) asked if I have the same profile as my colleague, I answered that I have but that I’m still a junior Siebel Consultant. As reply he asked me if I was able to do bugfixing but I told him I am capable of doing so.
My first job was to complete the overview of all fields used in the application (Siebel Media) and making an overview of all the mappings.
Before handing me the task, the other guy asked me if I new tools and if not, that this would be a great exercise to get used to working with tools. I ensured him that I had experience with Tools and that I would do the exercise.
Interview at new client
Dec/060
Last Friday, my colleague and me had an interview at a new client. The funny part of this interview was that – before I signed with the company I work for now, I had an interview at that client for a permanent position as Siebel developer. Because consultancy looked more interesting than a permanent job, I choose my current company.
During the interview, they didn’t ask me any questions since the remembered me from my previous interview. They told they were happy to have me in their team one way or another.
This week I have one more interview to go and then I can start on this project as of January 2nd. I’m looking forward to it.
