PC crash

It’s been quiet here lately and the reason is that my home PC crashed two weeks ago. When booting the screens froze and nothing happened anymore. After I brought him to the local PC shop, they told me that they removed several spyware items and also did a hard disk check, but the disk seemed healthy. According to them everything was back ok and the PC booted normally.

The first time I booted the PC everything was indeed normal. Even after 24 hours running al seemed ok. But when I came home at night and booted the PC the same problem occurred. Since the PC is 4 years old I didn’t want to upgrade it anymore but just buy a complete new system.

Since I have my own company (webdesign) I can buy my hardware very cheap because I’m also a hardware retailer.

The new PC will have the following specs:

  • Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Processor
  • GA-965G-DS3 Gigabyte motherboard
  • BARRACUDA 400GB SATA harddisk
  • 2048MB 667MHZ DDR2 CL5 ECC Ram
  • RADEON X1950PRO 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL-DVI video card
  • ANTEC CASE SONATA II

From my old PC I will use my 2 17″ LCD monitors, my Logistic wireless keyboard and mouse and my DVD-ROM and DVD-burner. I hope all my parts will be delivered next week so because I’m starting to get frustrated being without my PC.

And I promise. As soon as my pc is ready, I will post more frequently.

The spyware may not have been removed properly. Rootkits can be EXTREMELY difficult to remove.

Reboot into safe mode as your normal username. Go Start >> Run and type “regedit”. Go to the keys “HKEY / Current User / Software / Microsoft / Windows / Currentversion / Run” and “HKEY / Local Machine / Software / Microsoft / Windows / Currentversion / Run” and post the results of the left window here.

I’m pretty good at removing them. From the output of that I can tell you whether anything remains with 95% accuracy (there are more locations, but those are the telltales).

    Oh yeah…

That processor overclocks nicely… good choice. I’m not familiar with that motherboard, but make sure it supports overclocks well. The Gigabytes seem to, so you should be fine.

I have the same processor, and it’s humming along at 30% above normal specs quite nicely (around 3ghz) with nothing more than a BIOS change and no extra cooling. I spent money getting a good motherboard, and when I get the time I’ll see how far I can take it.

Thanks for the offer, but the old pc doesn’t even boot in safe mode for some reason. Maybe I take a look a it when the new pc is installed, but for now I’m not going to spent to much time on it. If I need your help, I’lle let you know. ;-)
